Pre-Workshop Tasks

1. Create a slide introducing yourself.

Please make a copy of the Template Slide (slide 3) and fill it out for yourself!

A photo is recommended (but not necessary)

We will time this slide presentation so that each slide has 30 seconds; that's how long you'll have to introduce yourself.

Keep this slide deck handy throughout the workshop so you can re-introduce yourself to each other.

2. Jot down some research questions.

The breakout group time during the workshop will be focused on revising and innovating on research questions that are of interest to you.

Please jot down 1 or 2 current research questions that you plan to use speech analytics or computational vision analysis methods to answer (or could imagine such techniques being useful).

This can be on scratch paper for now.

Some Zoom Participation Norms:

Edit your name in your Zoom preferences to what you’d like us/others to call you. Include preferred pronouns please! (e.g., “Stina Krist (she/her/hers)”)

  • Click "Participants" in the lower menu bar
  • Find yourself and click "More"
  • Select "Rename"

When in small groups, please turn your video ON as much as possible. To preserve bandwidth, we ask that only those presenting use video during whole group sessions.

During whole group sessions, please put substantive questions you’d like to be discussed in the Q&A Google Doc. Feel free to use the chat function for clarification questions, reactions, and general backchannel chatter. This will not be monitored for Q&A time!

Ask each other questions! Get to know each other! We are all disappointed to not be able to interact in person, and we hope that this workshop can provide a small opportunity for some of those invaluable interactions.

In small groups, be mindful of how much you are talking and help ensure that each member of your group has a chance to contribute.
